NOTES: For the throwback game, the Reds did
wear their pullover jersey, and the Phillies wore their zipper-up style… The
Red Sox displayed their black #6 (honoring Johnny Pesky) patch on the left
sleeve on the white jersey for the first time… For anyone wondering why there
is a doubleheader in Arizona, where the weather his usually dry and they have a retractable roof, it has to do with a scheduling snafu. Under the basic
agreement, a team can play no more than 23 consecutive days. The Diamondbacks
and Marlins were scheduled to play on Thursday, August 23, making it Arizona’s
24th straight day with a game. To fix the problem, MLB made
Wednesday’s game a doubleheader.
